Be Your Own Mother!

All of us know that a mother is a symbol of pure love; when a child is unwell, she pours her heart and soul in healing her child. And as the famous Hindi movie dialogue goes, ‘inhe dawaaon se zyaada, duwaaon ki zaroorat hai’! So, we all agree that mother care works!
But as we grow older, we are often reminded that we are no more babies and though the love of our elders still exists, the physical care and attention doesn’t seem to be around the way it used to be. How we wish we could receive it at all points in life…Isnt it?

Let’s agree that a part of us still wishes to cling to mama’s ‘pallu’ even now, because that’s where we felt most secure and safe as children! This indicates that with each passing year, we have depicted a chronological difference in our ages, whereas mentally we remained babies! And since over the years, the need to get mothered has been growing in us, we expect other loved ones to mother us! But when we don’t find anybody matching ‘mama’s’ standards, the voids get larger and even larger.

Unfortunately, we are poor learners; our mothers were, infact, doing a job of training us to take care of ourselves when we grow older (because for all probable reasons, they cannot be our caretakers all through their lives!). She was teaching us Self Love!
What stops us from becoming our own mothers?

When contacted with a physical ailment, some people heal earlier than others. We have also heard of cases where diseases like cancer have been completely cured. Have you ever thought how these miracles occur? More importantly, why is it that only a small proportion of people can deal with such challenges bravely, whereas most of us either blame the weather or (worse) people for our illnesses! Needless to state, the doctors’ doors are always open for us! But I wonder when we will open our hearts for ourselves.

Its time we realize that the highest and purest form of medicine is self love. Nobody but you can heal yourself. Illness is a movement towards wellness; indeed, it is the body’s way of communicating that it needs your attention.

Know Your Body!

Your body has its own intelligence; every cell of your body vibrates with energy and is filled with consciousness. The only thing you can say is yours in the physical realm is your body because you are born with it. Have you ever wondered how this beautiful mechanism works on its own? Neither does it require any charge nor batteries to perform its functions. Yet, every organ does its job so magnificently. It knows exactly what to do, when to do and how to do what it does!

Just imagine the lungs taking some time off from the respiratory function? Or what if the heart says that it needs to go on a holiday because ever since it was born, it hasn’t taken a break! Pheeew, so much is happening nonstop! The body doesn’t ask for anything in return, it has been endlessly serving us from the time its taken form. Can you empathize with the magnitude of demands the body has to fulfill? It is indeed a massive task done with utmost precision and perfection.

How many of us really thank our bodies for the service it gives us? Not many, because we are used to taking our bodies for granted. We may not be able to undo what has been done for years but we have the freedom to incorporate appreciation towards our bodies from now on….

Body listening as a regular practice!

Take your attention to your body and be with the silence of it. You are doing Body Listening! You will realize that every part of your body communicates to you. Your eyes might say that they want to remain shut for sometime or your knees might want a gentle massage. (Well, my stomach has communicated that it doesn’t require tea anymore. I trust my body’s intelligence and have obeyed for my own benefits.) Similarly, you may receive different messages from your hands, ears, head and heart.

Be patient as you move from head to toe and spend few moments on each part of your body. As you do this, please pay your gratitude to every organ for the work it does to keep you healthy. Do not forget to mention ‘I love you’; watch the body respond to these feelings. You will have tears of joy in your eyes and will wonder how you could miss noticing your body for so long!
It is fine if you hear nothing. With practice, you will have sharpened your sensitivity to understand your body, and more importantly, to listen attentively. Enjoy the experience!

Caution: It doesn’t matter how fat or thin you are…remember you are working towards Project SELF LOVE…In this journey, all that matters is what you think of your self including your bodies. Appreciate the roundness or leanness of your body because there’s only one YOU in this entire universe! If you don’t do it, nobody else will...

As you connect to your bodies, take your attention inside your bodies. In the words of Ekhart Tolle, author of ‘The Power of Now’, “through the inner body, you are forever one with God.” This is where your Being resides.

The body that you can see and touch is only a thin illusory veil; underneath it lies the invisible inner body. There is a very deep beautiful silence that you will witness, and the more you are in touch with it, the more appreciative you become of life. You will realize that there is life in every single cell and will feel the tiny sub-atomic particles vibrate throughout the body. The more consciousness you direct in your inner bodies, the higher your vibrations and the more positive outcomes you shall attract in your life.

Then it won’t matter how fat or thin you are; all that will matter is loving yourself. This will be your union with your own divine self. Love your bodies, both inner and outer and you will love life. You will succeed in Project Self Love. Wish you all the best!

Righto!!! That's why every year I have been adding to myself so that I have more of me to love. I am reaching nirvanik proportions now {time to cut the flab and loving myself a little less, I guess} :) :) :)

But jokes apart, I think you are thinking on the right track as most people or so much consumed on things in their life that they have missed the entire haystack for the needle. I guess the faultline starts when people want stability in life ... they want everything to be perfect in their lives ... forgetting that the perfection is the most imperfect thing in the universe. It can only remain for nano seconds before things start to fall apart (in physics we call it the law of entropy which loosely states that "left to itself all things leads to self destruction and mayhem"}. This is a law of universe. And here are we, the Royal Ourselves, who end up spoiling our years for the next nano second of perfection. And in this entire mess, we start cursing and blaming everything. Then who has the time to think about him(her)self! But that's one angle to the issue, someone can very well argue that the second angle could very well be the religious fanatics. These buggers are the self lovers of gigantic proportions, wanting to reach to almighty by performing their supposedly religious duties. What do you call them? There's a danger of people mixing self love with hating others!!! It sounds stupid. But sadly the average IQ of the masses is not 100 and common sense is most uncommon.

Like everything else, self love should be done in moderation as their is a danger of being termed a "Narcissist"! But this angle aside, there is also a probability of becoming a "kuen ka mendhak". Speaking strictly about myself, I believe in exploring. Doing different things rather than doing it differently. I love invention more than innovation. So what if Write Brothers could fly for only 47metres in their primitive aircraft? See what they have done for us today. Several humans have changed the course of mankind! Its time that someone rises up to change the course of the Universe!! (zyada ho gaya kya? sorry, but think about it)

Personally, I like to look for unknown ... i strive for unknown ... so what if I fail? I have been programmed to fail. I love to fail. So what if it dents my ego a little and makes me realize that its not me against the universe, Its Me With The Universe. Universe
remains unstable and so do I; not mentally :) but spiritually. After all I am here to enjoy the journey so someone else can enjoy the destination (if there is one!)

Amen

Naz, it is an established fact that entropy of a system increases when it is left on its own.
Thanking your body is a good idea but is it essentially required? We would be thanking our organs for the work they are already supposed to do. This is like promoting corruption inside the body.
Then we have so many other things to thank in a day that we might end up just thanking and doing nothing.

It is equally surprising to know that in an automobile , all mechanisms work so perfectly and that too without any alive part. It is really mesmerizing to know that how beautifully temperature of 2000 degrees is used to propel a machine. I would further like to extend this discussion that understanding mathematical equations solve all the real world problems.

In other words what I am trying to say is that
'self love", learning, training, god, life, matter , world and everything can be explained and defined with set of numbers and expressions. After all we all are made up of chemical compounds at elementary level. :)

As Navneet pointed out that "self love" makes you see only the things you want to see and that too in a very small spectrum,I think this situation becomes inevitable sooner or later.

Regards,
Bhanu.

I was thinking aloud and I realized that we all like to portray a tough self image to the world and in that endeavor we sometimes mistake showing gratitude as a sign of weakness. I guess that's why it is so tough to say sorry and REALLY MEAN IT. And the same holds true while saying 'Thank You'.

Bhanu, I know my organs have the duty to work, but they are not "obliged" to work! Slavery has long been abolised ;). I do not have any recourse if they go on strike (even with today's medical science). I definitely marvel at the advancement that humans have achieved, but I also know that in the context of what we still do not know, we are still very close to Zilch. You marvel at a car working without being alive! I say that's easy. The challenge is really to make something come to life. Can anyone really duplicate the brain? I doubt. Not in the next 1 million years for sure (if we don't kill ourselves by then, that is).

I guess we males have a bigger problem doing that then females in general. Is it the MCP syndrome? I really don't know. There are no easy answers.

The issue of self love is not debatable actually. Organs ko bas ek jhappi dene ka mamu! Isme koi problem hai? Nahin na.

Enjoy. :)

Hi Navneet,

Thanks for your comments. I understand that organs are not obliged to work, but I don’t see “slavery” in here too. Don’t you think this is give-and take scenario and not slavery?
Don’t you feed your organs and in return they work for you? Don’t you take care of your organs and see a doctor when you fall sick? Is where do you see slavery in here?

My earlier point was that thanking “just your organs” is like promoting corruption. The central idea to this is that we as an entity are not just a collection of organs. Our body has evolved over a period of time and some organs have become redundant with time. A living organism (humans) is also a consciousness. When you say that I should thank my organs, then who is actually thanking? Is this a correspondence between one organ to another? Is this a correspondence of consciousness to an organ and vice versa or exactly what? Our consciousness is also about things we possess, confidence, physical beauty, physical objects which make us feel better and help our organs to perform their job better. So shall we not thank them? And if we start listing this, I don’t think the list will ever end :D

As for creating life, please visit the following link:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/217054.stm

Apart from this, non living machines have shown real life like characters, this research was done by Prof. Tilden, and these bots are socially intelligent. You may find this interesting at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BEAM_robotics

And regarding replicating brain, MIT media lab has successfully replicated the eels brain and within a decade, artificial human brain can be created if policies are not made to stop this research, you can go through their projects at:

http://rct.media.mit.edu/rct/neuralmom.html
(This link is not particular to eels brain research, however this link will give you an idea about the levels Artificial Intelligence has evolved)

Navneet, I don’t know if MCP is the word which is conveniently used when females have nothing more to say. In this not anymore male dominated world, where do you see MCP syndrome? Isn’t it fair to express your ideas? And at least in cyber world, where physical power and biology doesn’t count, MCP doesn’t hold good.

Aur sirf organs ko hi kyon jhappi dene ka mamu? Consciousness aur car ka kya hoga??
:D

Cheers!

I can't find you e-mail id, so I'll leave information here. In old Pondicherry, ask the rickshaw-wallah to take you to the New Guest House on Rue Romand Rolain (or something like that). If there are no rooms there, ask them for any of the other Ashram guesthouses. They are clean, simple and nominally charged. You can rent cycles from the Sea-facing guesthouse for Rs 20 a day. There's nothing much to do but cycle arund the old city. Have fun.
